"El sueño del celta" by Mario Vargas Llosa

La aventura que narra esta novela empieza en el Congo en 1903 y termina en una cárcel de Londres, una mañana de 1916. Aquí se cuenta la peripecia vital de un hombre de leyenda: el irlandés Roger Casement.

Casement fue uno de los primeros europeos en denunciar los horrores del colonialismo. De sus viajes al Congo Belga y a la Amazonía quedaron dos informes memorables que conmocionaron a la sociedad de su tiempo. Estos dos viajes cambiarían a Casement para siempre, llevándole a enfrentarse a una Inglaterra a la que admiraba y para la que trabajaba hasta  convertirse en un militante en la causa del nacionalismo irlandés. Un gran libro.

“The Dream of the Celt” By Mario Vargas Llosa, Nobel Laureate, 2010

 Mario Vargas Llosa is a legendary writer in in the Spanish-speaking world. He has written more than 30 novels, plays and essays.

The Nobel Literature Prize, 2010, winner Mario Vargas Llosa wrote this novel about the life of Roger Casement, the Irish rebel who was executed by the British in August 1916. Vargas Llosa found this character in the biography of Joseph Conrad.

Roger Casement, a British diplomat, exposed the terrible treatment of native workers in the Congo by the Belgian government and the situation of Indians working in the extraction of rubber in the Amazon on the border between Colombia and Peru. A great book.
